COTAG Exercise 2010

The emphasis in this exercise was upon inter-agency communication and cooperation. The off-road driving conditions were not especially challenging (by COTAG standards) yet hazardous enough - given the nature of the passengers - to provide realism.

Serious injuries would always be dealt with in accordance with the priorities of the casualty which means asking the Police to request Mountain Rescue attendance if required. The British Red Cross are however sufficiently trained and equipped to deal with a wide range of injuries that might be sustained by walkers over moderate ground and in this regard the exercise was both realistic and challenging.

Casualty extraction in some cases was hampered by the terrain and BRC and COTAG personnel had to work alongside to achieve a successful outcome.
